19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early chances in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
