Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Advised to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Cars.

An defense minister has stated that the MoD is currently investigating the potential security risks posed by Chinese-made vehicles, while staff have been advised to avoid talking about classified matters in all vehicles.

Security Guidance for Defence Staff

In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, a defence minister commented on claims that MoD staff have been told not to talk about secret information while riding in China-made vehicles.

The minister said that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but stressed that security is a issue in all contemporary cars.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug MoD technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any car, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that exist in all automobile, to only have those secret conversations in protected areas. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, the minister responded: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Security Context

The revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and bring chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship was reportedly shining lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

The broader security situation underscores the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in all aspects of government operations, from vehicle use to communication habits.
